Israel

In 1987, Dorothy accepted an invitation from Mayor Kollek of Jerusalem to travel to Israel and create this collection. She was given special access to historical sites, including inside the Western Wall where she painted one of her most intricate and impressive oil pieces.

For her watercolors, Dorothy used pure and bright colors as a way to reflect what she saw as a people with resilience and a nation with endless possibilities. During her three-year journey, Dorothy worked with a historian at the Hebrew University to create an art book with text, giving context to her 151 paintings. In 1990, Dorothy had a solo exhibition at the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C. Mayor Kolleck called the paintings “the next best thing to being in Israel.”
