California

Dorothy lived in Southern California for more than fifty years. From the moment she arrived, she fell in love with the stunning beaches and hills. She was equally attracted to the gritty melting pot of downtown LA, which reminded Dorothy of her hometown, New York City.

When Dorothy embarked on her California collection in 1976, she spent two years traveling up and down the coast, painting everything from Native American reservations to iconic landmarks. Upon completing her collection, Dorothy had an exhibition at The Gallery in Los Angeles. Author and native Angelino Ray Bradbury summed up her unique talent as “making the familiar unfamiliar, younger than when you last saw it.”
